:: Tinharé's Archipelago:

The Tinharé's Archipelago is conformed by 3 big Islands, 23 smaller ones and lots of islets and is located at the south of Bahia State. It is surrounded by the ocean and by an estuary, formed by dos Patos River and Taperá Channel. It also conforms a municipality with capital in Cairú City. Its surface is 433Km2 and has 40 km of beautiful seaside, being Morro de São Paulo the most important tourism pole. Other points to visit: Boipeba and Cairú City.

.: Cairú Island:
Cairú Is. is part of the Una River's fluvial archipelago. Cairú city has a big historical importance because it was the second city founded by Portuguese at the Brazilian territory, during XVIth Century, as part of the inhabitance of Ilhéus Captaincy. The Indian name of the city was Aracajuru that means "Sun's House"

.: Boipeba Island:
Boipeba's name comes from tupi languaje expression "mboi-peba", that means 'flat snake', possibly a reference to the sea turtle or to some snakes species that, when irritated, flattens the body and, specially the neck. Located at Tinharé's south, Boipeba island counts with three towns: Velha Boipeba, Moreré and São Sebastião, also known as Cova da Onça.

The sea is quite calm and is the best natural port for sail-boats, yachts and motor boats, offering rest and security to navigators. By the coast, and enjoying a beautiful landscape, is easy to arrive to Morro, walking just 30 minutes, if tide is low. In front of Gamboa, there are 2 touristic points: Ponta do Curral and Coroa Is., visited by many tourists. Due to its geographical position on the island, facing to the west, Gamboa has more sunny hours and its inhabitants enjoy of the privilege of having each day an incredible sunset without leaving their houses to contemplate such a attractive scene. Gamboa counts with the structure to receive tourists from all around the world, with firs quality restaurants and inns that preserve the natural enchantments of the place.

Is the most well-known town and turístic pole of the region.

Distant just 3 Km. from Morro se São Paulo, Gamboa do Morro offers one of the best seasides at Tinharé Is. This fishing village is the bigger redoubt of original inhabitants of the island and provides different kinds of man power to Morro. It is quite enough to be considered as "Tranquility Land", ideal for rest being that the number of tourist there is less than in Morro.


.Garapuá:
Garapuá is located at the south region of Tinharé Is., practically in front of Boipeba; it is a small town, little explored by the tourism. Its inhabitants live from fishing and coconut and urucu oil production. This town become known because of

being official stop for those who do the "journey around the Island" by boat. Its beach consists of a big bay with white, fine sand, with an extremely calm, crystalline, blue sea. The coral reefs of this beach are one of the best places for diving at the Island. This beach is approximately located at 12 km from Morro de São Paulo. The access is made of tractor or vans belonging to the inns located at the 5th beach that offer this visit to their guests

.Flora e Fauna:It could be said that Dendê Coast has been blessed with an enormous variety of tropical plants, such as coconut trees, fens and lots of flowers such as bromelias, orchids.

.Fishing:
The artisan fishing supplies the necessities of the Islands' inhabitants from a long time ago time; fishermen are respecting the certain dates to fish each kind of sea fruits. At this part of Tdos los Santos' Bay, it is possible to find practically everything in quantity enough because the islands are surrunded by coral reefs, ideals for

lobsters, squids and octopuses fisheries, great fens where oysters grow, sururu, lambretas (similar to oysters), crabs, siris (red crab), guaiamu (blue scrab), etc.


.Regional Artisans:
Dendê Coast is famous for its dendê palm trees plantations; people lives of its farming and oil production, already hand-made and its coconuts are used to make all kind of presents. The "piaçava" (kind of straw) is used to make beautiful lamps that can be appreciated in many regional restaurants. Many Inns and Hotels ask the local craftsmen to decorate its rooms. Lamps, decorations on walls and pictures, all of them very creative and well elaborated and taking hand natural raw materials.

Silver is also used to create beautiful jewelry, that can be appreciated at the artisans fair that every night works at Areliano Lima's Square, in Morro de São Paulo's village. This fair is a recommendable visit for tourist who, at the same time can enjoy of live music.

At Velha Boipeba, you can find the Matriz do Divino Espírito Santo (main church built at XVIIth Century) and in São Sebastião, São Sebastião Church (built at XXth Century). Boipeba offers to tourists some ecological walks across the atlantic wood. The access to the Island is made by tractors that leave from

Morro de São Paulo until Torrinhas town, along a dust road. Among the local fauna is easy to see curiós, tatus, raposas and lontras. The most common trees are laurel, pau d'arco (arch-steek), landi, landirana, jataipeba, mucugês, camaçaris, oiticicas, saraibas, massarandubas, mangaba, adorno, etc.
From the top of the hill where the monastery is located, is easy to appreciate a wonderful sight of the region, plenty of old houses and modern ones with low roofs. The city offers many historical attractions, for example São Antonio Monastery, baroque building built on XVI Century. The city offers a good tourist infrastructure, with hotels, inns, restaurants and a pier where boats arrive and leave to Valença, Boipeba and other destinations of Taperoá Channel. This is the capital city of Cairú Municipality (Tinharé Archipelago): the Town Hall, Civil Police Headquarters and many public offices part of the local government are located there.
As all antique city, Cairu has much history to tell and does it promoting popular and religious parties. Cairú's parties are well-known all around the world, and many Europeans had already made documentary films about them and some producers had present Zabiapunba group in European stages making the Brazilian folklore still more known in Europe.
Surrounded by fens, does not have good beaches. Coconuts and "piaçava" (kind of straw) are the artisans raw-material. This artisans, jointly with fishing activities and different religious expressions are important parts of these Islands traditions. Traditional agriculture includes scent nail ("cravo-da-índia"), pepper and "guaraná" (native plant).
Galeão trade mark is São Francisco's Church, the Saint of animals, and every year is offered a party to him. This is a simple town whose neighbours are, in a big number, born there. Its economy is based on fishing and piaçava (a kind of staw) and dendê oil production. There is also a big deforestation: Brazil-stick is common in the area.

.: Tinharé Island:

.Galeão: Coming from Valença, the first town of the Island to be seen Galeão, that faced the channel that separates Tinharé Island from continent. Close to this town, there are 2 islets exist, Manguinho Is. and Matinha Is. Where the fishing with "gamboas" is practiced. There you can find fishes such tainha, carapicu, agulhão and arraia. It is said that sharks can be seen in this channel because it has direct access from open sea.
